Picking the Right Baby Toys

Right Baby Toys

As a new parent you want to have great toys for that new baby, right? When choosing a toy, there are some things to be mindful of.

First and foremost, always consider safety. When purchasing a toy, make sure you buy one that is age appropriate. This is important, particularly concerning safety. With this in mind, even with the safe age rating, it's important to test the toy. This is particularly true for smaller children, due to choking hazards. One way to be certain that a baby toy is not dangerous is to the toilet paper roll test. If a toy fits inside of the roll, then it poses a choking hazard and should be avoided.

Another reason for purchasing age appropriate toys is due to the fact if the toy you buy is created for older children, your baby could find it too difficult to figure out. If this happens, the baby may choose to ignore it all together. When purchasing a larger toy, for example, that the child may sit or ride on, be sure it's well built and fits in the appropriate weight range for your baby. Heavy weight plastic is the most recommended material for this type of toy. The smooth edges, your baby will be safer.

Babies love bright, bold colorful toys, and as they develop will find the interactive toys intriguing. Store shelves have lots of these to choose from for every age, stage and interest.

If still at a loss, do some research before making your purchase. The internet is great for this. You can read testimonials from other parents on sites such as Amazon, and get feedback on a specific toy. This is a wonderful way to find out the results others have had. All too often you may buy an expensive toy and find your baby isn't interested in it at all. The internet also enables you to check for safety recalls on toys and other baby products.

And finally, another important consideration is your baby's personality. What does your baby seem to be interested in? If you have a daughter, there's no rule that says she can't play with a car. Perhaps she enjoys pushing around toys with wheels. Get her a car! You'll still have ample opportunity to teach her how to be a young lady. Buy toys that your baby will find interesting-don't restrict your purchase to what is considered gender appropriate. Toys help your children to learn and grow and have fun during the process. Always take time to have fun learning with them.
