Finding Babysitters

If parents of young children ever want to break out for the evening, and go see a movie or have a relaxing meal, then they will need babysitters. It's all part of being a parent. If you're lucky, you'll have family members nearby who will perform the service. Grandparents are likely to offer themselves as babysitters, however many times you like. Unfortunately, when our kids were small, my husband's and my families were some distance away. Paying for someone to watch the children was a necessity. Later, we did manage to get into a group of parents who clubbed together and sat for each other on a rota. Until then, we had to find someone we could trust.

Finding Babysitters
If you plan on going to a baby shower then you need to look for a baby-sitter and go have fun and enjoy some time away from your mommy duties!

For a number of years, we had a young man who sat for us. This was frowned upon in some quarters, but we had every faith in him. We had got to know him and invited him to the house to spend time with our two children, in our presence, before we left them alone with him. This was important, because our kids were quite shy and we wanted them to get to know him first and visa versa. After the initial shyness on both sides, our kids became very fond of Darren and we didn't use any other babysitters. We trusted him because he was the eldest of seven children and had a lot of child rearing experience. He was really good with them and enjoyed reading them stories and playing with them. He would have been able to cope, had any emergency occurred.

There are ground rules when it comes to paying someone to watch the kids. You must let babysitters know when bed time is, what the kids are allowed to watch on TV, and what they're not allowed to eat or drink. Make sure babysitters feel at home but not so much, that they have the run of the house. Always be back when you say you will be, and leave a telephone number where you can be reached. Make sure that the kids know that the babysitter is in charge in your absence.

If you don't have a circle of friends or neighbors who can help out, there are agencies that supply babysitters. It's best to get a reference or two from someone else who's used the service, before you do. As long as you have someone who'll care for your kids as much as you do, don't feel guilty about going out every now and then. You've earned a break. Enjoy yourselves!
