Decorating a Baby NurseryDecorating a baby nursery can be one of the most enjoyable tasks that you will have before your bundle of joy arrives. There are many nursery themes to choose from and narrowing it down to just one may be your most difficult decision. Many parents know the sex of their baby in time to tailor decoration to a baby girl or baby boy theme. But if you don't know the sex of your baby there are many themes and color combos that are gender neutral. One color combo that is a good example of a gender neutral theme is periwinkle and celery green. Or perhaps you would prefer a neutral theme using beiges, tans and creams. You could also choose an all white nursery with just splashes of color in the accessories that can be changed to suit your child as it grows. Once you pick your theme and begin the task of decorating your baby's nursery, don't forget these essentials... Cribs - Your baby will use the crib for two or three years, but if you would like to use it longer, choose one of the many convertible cribs on the market. These cribs go from a baby's crib, to a toddler's bed, to a young child's bed, with just a few quick changes. Of course, always buy a crib that is certified safe. Most commercial cribs on the market today will have safety certification. Changing Table - Choose a changing table that matches your chosen theme, but as with cribs, remember that safety is important. The table you choose should have safety straps and rails to keep your baby from falling off the table and getting hurt. Your changing table should have a cushy pad to keep your baby comfortable while being changed. Storage - First determine how much storage you will need. Then pick baby furniture such as armoires, dressers, blanket chests and toy boxes that will blend with your decor. Seating - Don't forget Mom (and Dad) and pick a comfortable chair or glider rocker which will be great for those late night feedings or when singing a lullaby to baby. After your theme is picked and the essentials for the room are decided, you can begin to choose your baby's nursery accessories. These accessories can include items such as rugs, window treatments, wall decor, wallpaper and paint. Just remember when decorating a baby nursery to keep it fun. This is your chance to do things with your decor that you would not do in the rest of the house. Start with a theme you love and then go for it! Other resources
